Today's retirees expect more from their retirement than their parents' generation. Those now reaching retirement came of age in the 1960s, an era that fought the establishment and embraced more natural approaches to health. Baby Boomers also place a high value on being active. They expect to still be working out at the gym, hiking, biking, and playing tennis and golf well into their 80s, and even beyond. They want to be free from pain and have greater range of motion, without the help of analgesic drugs. They understand the need to take responsibility for their good health and are often well educated about the role massage therapy plays in maintaining wellness.
Active Adult/55+ communities are growing everywhere. Once thought to be limited to remote areas of Florida and Arizona, these communities are now found throughout the country. That is because Boomers are embracing the Active Adult Community Lifestyle.
In this class you will learn the unique needs of this population, specific pathologies and how they relate to massage therapy, such as osteoporosis, hypertension, artificial joint replacements, and more. Some added techniques will be taught that can be incorporated into your basic massage. Students will also learn marketing strategies and how to develop a business plan that may be presented to Active Adult Community administrators, expanding your practice into a whole new market.
